Thursday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at the Rochester Town Clerk office.
The White River Valley Players are forming a brand new theater company to create and sustain theater opportunities for valley youth The guiding principle of the group will be “Theater for Students, by Students” and it will be a student-led organization under the direction of mentors from the White River Valley Players. What the group ends up doing will be based upon what the students decide, but some initial ideas put forth include bringing in entertainment, field trips to see theater performances, field trips to visit other student run theater programs, workshops in acting, directing, clowning, improv, and Guerilla theater and, of course, performing.
There will be an organizational meeting on Thursday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at the Rochester Town Offices. All interested students from Rochester and surrounding towns, including college age, are welcome and refreshments will be provided.

October 24, November 14 and December 5 at Rochester High School.
The White River Valley Players will sponsor a series of three full-day workshops on writing 10-minute plays, led by well-known Vermont playwright Dana Yeaton.
A 10-minute play is approximately 10 written pages, which translates into a 10-minute performance-a lot of action in a short time!
Yeaton teaches dramatic writing at Middlebury College and is playwright-in-residence with the Vermont Stage Company. He is the recipient of many playwriting awards, and is the founding director of the Vermont Young Playwright’s Project.
At the first workshop, participants will learn the basics of writing a play and begin work on their own. They will learn how to turn their ideas into a story, and develop plot, character, motivations and conflict, and also create dialogue that will draw in and inspire their audience. They will have two weeks to work on the play and e-mail their work to Yeaton, who will respond well before the second workshop.
The second workshop will include “cold” readings of everyone’s first draft. Each play will be read aloud and the playwrights will receive feedback from the group, then work to strengthen their draft and build toward the finished product.
At the final workshop, everyone will meet to read their works-in-progress and provide further feedback and support for each other. These second drafts will be e-mailed to Yeaton, and following his response, each playwright will begin working with a director to cast and rehearse their play.
Participants will be expected to attend all workshops and do the out-of-class assignments. The three full day workshops will culminate in the performance of “An Evening of 10-Minute Plays,” Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rochester High School Auditorium.
The registration deadline for the workshops is Monday, Oct. 19. For more information about the cost of the workshops and to register, contact Kristi Tate at 767-9639 or tate_kristi@yahoo.com.

Live Outdoor Theater: Sunday, September 6th, 2009, 2 p.m. $8
Bring a blanket-first come best seat. Rain location: Rochester school Gymnasium
“The Dirt Cheap Money Circus features the distress of money-deprived billionaires, the logic of the US Healthcare System, the philosophy of Forever, presented by a flock of kids, spectacular stilt and dragon dances, interspersed with appearances by Karl Marx, who confronts the 2009 economic situation with his existential thoughts about money and our relationship to it. And much more. As always, this year’s circus performs to a live band and excels in giant puppets.”

Bread & Puppet Theater has been enacting its radical utopian vision in cardboard and cloth for over forty years, from the spectacle of its larger-than-life puppets at Vietnam War protests in New York City to the pageantry of its long-running (over 25 years) annual event, Our Domestic Resurrection Circus in Glover, Vermont. The Bread & Puppet Theater is one of the oldest non-profit, self-supporting theatrical companies in the U.S.
